Project description:
A significant part of the biological wastewater treatment equipment reacts sensitively to the sudden, to large amounts of inflowing rainwater. A sudden increase in the water level does not only cause load problems at sewage treatment plants, but it can also upset the balance of organisms that play a key role in the decomposition process. In some Far Eastern countries, this problem is so severe because of the monsoon, that biological reactors have to be re-inoculated many times, because the remaining cultures are not sufficient for the self-regeneration of the reactor. Important information for operating companies worldwide, what is the difference between the current load and the season-adjusted load in the main branches of their sewer network. Important information, that in case of possible overload effects, the dynamics with which the wave reaches each node, what can be done to most effectively reduce direct and indirect damage.
align=”justify”>The objective of our R&D project, to create a load monitoring and forecasting system, which is able based on load-measuring instruments fixed at certain points of the sewage network, provide an accurate prediction of the course of the overload, and to propose an intervention decision to reduce the damage. The system to be developed is extremely important for all domestic and international wastewater treatment systems, where the operation of the bioreactors can be drastically disrupted by an unexpected overload.
align=”justify”>As a result of our R&D project, AQUAZen – Warning for overloading biological wastewater treatment plants, monitoring and forecasting system, together with the developed data collection equipment, we intend to sell it to operators of domestic and international sewage treatment plants and sewage networks. There is an outstanding market demand for the planned system in Thailand, Vietnamese, Korean, at waterworks in Indonesia and Sri Lanka, where, due to the monsoon weather, the operating efficiency of bioreactor-based wastewater treatment plants is much more exposed to seasonal overload.
